Best Cycling Routes in the Forest of Dean

See below some of our favourite routes for cycling holidays in the Forest of Dean.Ā 

Symonds Yat Trail

2km (1.2miles) 45mins

This circular walking trail follows tracks through the Iron Age fort and attractive woodland.

Mailscot Wood Trail

6km (4miles) 2½ hours

Absorb a panoramic view of the river and pass through a wonderful mosaic of trees on this challenging hilly walk.

Bracelands to the Wye

2.6km (1.6 miles) 1 hour

A simple route that follows a forest track from the southern edge of Bracelands. Look out for cars and coaches that also use this track.

Freeminers Trail

2km (1.2miles) 45mins

This trail has 3 loop options. A challenging and varied singletrack ideal for even the most demanding of riders, from tricky switchback climbs to rooty drops and hairpin bends.

Family Cycle Trail

14.5km (9 miles)

A waymarked circular route mainly on former railway lines with connecting routes to villages and picnic sites. This route has been especially surfaced and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Verderers Trail

2.6km (1.6 miles) 1 hour

A simple route that follows a forest track from the southern edge of Bracelands. Look out for cars and coaches that also use this track.

Downhill trails

2km (1.2miles) 45mins

On this cycle, expect to find a range of severe drops, jumps, table tops, berms and loamy corners, off camber and rocky and rooty sections. An uplift service available from the main cycle centre.

Symonds Yat to Biblins Loop

4.5km (2.8 miles) 1½ hours

This route is not specifically waymarked, but follows public footpaths. Start by descending steep steps to join the Peregrine Path. Cross the river over the bridge and return along the public footpath.

The Peregrine Path

4.9km (3.1 miles)

This unique cross border route straddling the England and Wales border. It largely follows the River Wye through the upper Wye Gorge and connects Monmouth and Symonds Yat.Ā
